Hi! My name is Amanda, and I’m a music critic and digital editor. I’m a classically trained musician, and I live in Massachusetts with my husband Kenny.
I inherited my passion for baking from my mother. I loved making cakes for my friends and family on their birthdays and cranking out dozens of cookies around the holidays, but when I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease in 2018, my relationship to food completely changed.
I removed many dietary irritants from my life — including refined sugar and high-lactose dairy products — which left many of my tried and true recipes unusable. My oral allergy syndrome also worsened, so most nuts and raw fruits were off the table, too.
Ever since, I’ve been on a quest to make dessert a part of my life again. Using natural sweeteners like maple syrup, honey, and dates and low-lactose or vegan milk alternatives, these sugar-free, lactose-free, and nut-free recipes give the original recipes a run for their money.
